Roper Mountain Star Undergoes Renovations for Future Generations
The Roper Mountain Star, a cherished symbol of holiday spirit in Greenville, is set to undergo significant renovations to ensure its longevity. Recently removed from its pedestal for the second time since its installation, the star has suffered damage due to severe weather conditions, including Hurricane Helene. Assistant Director Thomas Riddle emphasized the necessity of these repairs, stating that while it is unfortunate the star will not illuminate the holidays this year, the renovations are essential for future enjoyment.
The planned upgrades include replacing outdated lights with modern color-changing LEDs and installing an automated timer system. The center aims to complete the project by next Thanksgiving, allowing the star to be utilized for various occasions beyond the traditional holiday season. Originally erected in 1995 as a tribute to philanthropist Buck Mickel, the star has become a beloved landmark for locals and visitors alike, symbolizing hope and joy during the festive period. During renovations, the star will remain visible on the ground for public viewing.
Stars On Ice Greenville Sport reviews
Great Show
We thoroughly enjoyed the show and had very good seats in the 9th row. HOWEVER, our experience was marred only by the large number of stragglers who were continually making their way to their seats in the dark, carrying food/drink, making no attempt to crouch, rush or otherwise minimize the impact they were having on everyone's view of the performance. I feel strongly that the doors should be controlled to allow latecomers entry only between numbers. People seem to have lost all concept of common sense in this regard! We paid a great deal for these tickets and having to constantly crane our necks in an attempt to see around the people blocking our view really distracted from our enjoyment of the show. I imagine if we had been seated farther back we would have seen even MORE of the stragglers coming in, so maybe we were comparatively lucky.
